Archaeological Monitoring during Construction of Section 9B: Canaan River South Trans-Canada Highway
Fredericton to Salisbury, New Brunswick

Due to presence of known heritage sites and the potential for encountering additional, as yet unidentified resources, the Maritime Road Development Corporation instituted a program of archaeological monitoring designed to minimize the potential for serious cultural impacts. CRM Group was retained by St-Isidore Asphalte to monitor construction activities in the area immediately south of the Canaan River.

Staff carefully monitored grubbing and stripping activities to ensure unidentified sites were not accidentally impacted during construction. Particular consideration was given to the protection of a small, abandoned cemetery located adjacent to the right-of-way.
