Archaeological Assessment and Testing of the Proposed Granite Golf Course Site
Uxbridge, Ontario

CRM Group was retained by Dillon Consulting in the late Fall of 1998 to undertake an archaeological assessment in advance of the early spring construction of a golf course for Granite Golf Inc. Due to the mix of woodland and open farmland within the 80 hectare development property, CRM Group's archaeological team employed both visual assessment and shovel testing techniques in its search for archaeological sites.

Despite severe weather conditions, the assessment was completed in the early Spring, allowing construction to proceed on schedule. During the assessment, three historic sites and one Precontact site were identified. Testing was carried out on two of the historic sites, as well as the Precontact site, in order to delineate boundaries, and assess integrity.

Minor revisions to the golf course plan, made it possible to avoid any direct impact to the sites. Property owners have entered in to a restrictive covenant which will ensure that the sites are protected from any future development impacts.
