Archaeological Monitoring on the Indian River System
Halifax Regional Municipality

CRM Group was retained by Nova Scotia Power Incorporated to monitor and evaluate the condition of archaeological sites exposed by the periodic draining of reservoirs on the Indian River system west of Halifax. Archaeological resources found within the reservoirs include a variety of Aboriginal camps and fishing stations, as well as remnants of early historic lumbering activities.

Site examination provided important data relating to the impact of flooding and de-watering of the reservoirs. Strategies for the management of these significant cultural resource will assist the utility to minimize future impacts.
